Elliott Erwitt is a photographer known for unusual photographs and pictures of dogs. He was born in Paris, France in 1928. In 1939, he and his parents moved from Italy to the United States. He went to the Los Angeles city college where he studied photography and filmmaking. In 1951, he was drafted into the Army and was stationed in France and Germany. He met the famous photographer Roy Stryker, who hired Erwitt to work on a photography project for the Standard Oil Company. He then became a freelance photographer. Erwitt took many photos of dogs, publishing five books about them. When asked about his 1998 book "Dogs Dogs," he says, "This is not a book of dog pictures, but of dogs in pictures."
